My corduroy #OLOlivePants are giving off this vibe, I just need fancy New England home and baby to complete the fashion plate

YES 2 zoom this weekend!

Originally I had posted no zoom this weekend but it was added to the zoom calendar and so I thought why not? Not everybody can make every zoom, let’s make the most of it while we are deep into the #OLOlivePants #MPWM.

If you feel you need catching up, join the zoom and let's all get to the finish line (that is a pep talk for myself just as much as for all the participants!). Ziah, the #OLOlivePants designer has very kindly agreed to join us for the last zoom so we have a deadline for completed garments to show off. I’m excited to get their take on design inspiration, pattern drafting process and vintage sewing machines.

Construction is drudgery

Construction is work, free time is precious and making often gets squeezed into that part of the day when we are most exhausted and not feeling like work. Easy to get stuck in the toile stage especially when you are by yourself. It is hard to look in the mirror and make decisions. Is it good enough? Could it be better? Maybe? The way to know is to get to the finish line. In the zoom we can make suggestions, but you are the only person right there, on site. You are the decider. Trust your decision making. Tell yourself to just to pull the plug on the fitting stage and move ahead. One cannot go wrong, plenty more fabric in the world. Keep the toile to refer back to. Developing confidence takes practice. GIT-R-DONE!!!!

This is where having a simple straight waistband pays off. No need to worry about matching up the side seams or any seam really; make it extra long and it’s all systems go. If things go haywire, it is straightforward1 to cut out another waistband. Just get that thing attached, topstitch it on, WHATEVER.

Construction Short Cut #1

In the Git-R-Done spirit, forget about the pocket (temporarily) and add an afterthought pocket.

Construction Short Cut #2

Buttonholes near the edges of waistbands can be tricky. Take a scrap of the fashion fabric and make a small bias tube. Attach this as a button loop when you sew on the edge of the waistband.
